A Look Inside
BLEU Theme
Starting at measure 18, the primary theme appears in the bassoon with the main progression outlined in detail within the piano.
Swamp Pop & Boogie Influence
The triplet is the heart of the Swamp Pop/Boogie pulse and is usually juxtaposed against a duple melody or harmony above. This style gained popularity in Acadiana throughout the 1940s-80s and is greatly influenced by Fat’s Domino, Van Broussard and many other Louisiana musicians.
Personal Touch
“While working with the BLEU theme, I had an idea to elongated it with a 12 Bars Blues moment to see if the oboe (at the time) could use the melody as a base for improvisation within these changes. I was very pleased with the result and leave the invitation to double reed players everywhere to be as creative as possible within the ad lib section, using what is notated simply as a guide to stay together with the piano.” Happy Improvising !
